I recently shot at Hatch Labs in Frank Ghery’s west side highway IAC headquarters. I have always wanted to see that building, his first in the city. Coincidently, I was sent there again 2 weeks later for another assignment. Hatch Labs is an incubator for cell phone app start ups. This is my second Forbes Leader Board shoot. You can see the other post here or read the Forbes article here.

I recently photographed the Russian American fertilizer magnate, Alexander Rovt, in his recently completed “empire style” 27 million dollar upper east side townhouse. You can read the Forbes article and see a slide show here. Also of interest, he just bought 14 Wall Street for over $300 million cash.
Here is a new campaign I shot in November for Huggies. It was a lot of fun working again with Ogilvy Chicago. The dads pictured here are, from top, Ben Cherry, Sergio Fuenzalida, Ron Charles and Leo Coltrane.
I photographed a really cool campus in Manhattan called General Assembly. Entreprenuers rent space in these large open areas for their small business start ups. Their are classes and common areas for meetings and hanging out. You can read the story here.
It’s always fun to do something different. I had to find an interesting angle, showing the expanse. The photo ran as a spread across two pages. They wrote a bit about some of the people in the photo with arrows pointing to them. So I didn’t want anyone to be too small. I ended up shooting with the Canon 24mm TS-E II, but barely utilizing the movements. I really like that lens lately. I used it for a portrait recently which I will post once published. I was on a ladder and the camera was just out of comfortable reach. I gently clamped my laptop to the ladder’s top and shot in live view on the computer. I was able to verify focus and see what the camera was seeing, and fire the camera on my computer- very cool.
Last year I photographed Mercy Townsend, winner of the Gerber Generation Photo Search.
The original Gerber Baby, Ann Turner Cook came by to meet her.

Melanie Sawyer was our baby wrangler. Thanks to her, Mercy worked with us happily for about 2 hours which is exceptional for a 2 year old.
Ellen Silverstein was styling wardrobe and Nikki Wang fixing Mercy’s hair as her parents watch proudly.
Everyone crowded around Some Studio to see Mercy give Ann a hug.
Can you tell which one is a Gerber Baby?
Thanks to Josh Freiwald for the behind the scenes photos.
Al blushed as he was complimented by his on air colleagues this morning for his appearance on the cover of American Way. I can count the number of times I’ve actually seen someone reading a magazine story with my photos in it (3). This time it happened on national TV!
You can watch it here.
Check your seat back pocket for the February 1st issue of American Way Magazine.

Here is one of my favorite outtakes:
There are more of my photos of squirmy babies on Huggies Youtube Channel.

Just before the holidays I photographed Jon Cheigh of Cohen and Steers for Barron’s. You can see the article here.
I photographed Shane Smith for Forbes at the Williamsburg, Brooklyn, offices of Vice. We also shot at his favorite after work spot, Hotel Delmano. You can read the story here.
I have the cover of the January issue of Scientific American. We photographed in the studio to illustrate a feature on the aging process.

I really enjoyed photographing Elinor Giobbi. Below are a couple of raw outtakes. I look forward to getting deeper into these images.
My photograph of Jacqueline Novogratz graces the cover of the latest edition of Forbes magazine. Here is the story.
Jacqueline Novogratz has created a non profit fund called Acumen.
Here are some outtakes from our shoot.
This is my 9th Forbes cover. The do not come about that often and it’s always an honor. My last one was Clay Christensen.
Here is a photograph I took of Jacqueline in 2004 for Fortune.
And here she is on Charlie Rose.
I am fortunate to have been enlisted by Spotco to photograph David Hyde Pierce and Colby Minifie for a new play at Manhattan Theater Club called Close Up Space. Previews begin December 1.

Here are some images I shot for the November issue of Outdoor Life magazine. It was an intense day as we did 5 complicated shots in a fairly small studio. Three of them are included in this post.
Luckily, Some Studio is in the heart of NYC’s flower district. With the help of Stylist Ellen Silverstein, we procured bundles of corn stalks, bags of fall leaves, a small Japanese Maple and 350 pounds of sand.

Thanks to my crew Josh Freiwald and Richard Solinger for their hard work. Also thanks to Ellen and her crew, August Goulet and Lisa Metropolis for making a corn field, beach and wind. And Thanks to our model, Kevin Witt, for wearing 4 layers of insulation on a very hot day, all day.
And many thanks to Justin Appenzeller and Jim Walsh of Outdoor Life for the art direction and the opportunity.
Richard Ketchum is the CEO of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). I photographed him for Smart Money.
Last year Forbes hired me to photograph the founders of a website called Airbnb which facilitates short term apartment rentals. I photographed them in a property listed on their site which they happened to be staying in for the week. You can read the article here.
They are, above from left: Nathan Blecharczyk, Brian Chesky (in mirror) and Joe Gebbia.
