I have been working on some new dog photos. I have a huge pile of animal and baby photos waiting for my attention. I recently added these two as a spread to my printed portfolio.
Shilo has amazing eyes. Their like headlights in the dark. They radiate light.
Murray, the Boston, is my sister’s dog. He has a new partner, Maggie. Maggie has a wider white patch on her face. She has turned his world upside down. My daughter is crazy about Murray and Maggie.
You can see the rest of my animals here.
I shot the cover of the October 2011 issue of The Atlantic. We photographed a model, William Coleman, in my studio to illustrate a story about how the NCAA may be taking advantage of atheletes. Hair, makeup, dirt and sweat by Nikki Wang
Thanks to Samantha Caruthers for the behind the scenes photos.

If you’re on Amtrak, look for my cover of the September/October issue of Arrive magazine.
Styling by Claire Tedaldi.
Olgilvy has produced another ad from our Huggies Slip-on shoot.
If you’re flying American Airlines, be sure to check out your seat back for my Michael Stipe cover. Michael is really great to work with. I had the pleasure of photographing him once before, in 2004 for New York magazine.

You can read the story in American Way.
Here are some photos from my 2004 shoot:
If you are flying, check your seat pocket for the January 1, 2011 edition of American Way magazine. They asked me to photograph him with a bunch of paper airplanes for the cover to mark the 45th anniversary of the publication. I decided it would be best to composite them after the shoot. We shot the planes separately in the morning before he arrived. You can see them below. He was really relaxed and easy to work with. Thanks to Betsy Semple at American Way for the call. Thanks also to Stefanie Syat for grooming and Josh Freiwald and Seth Personett for helping me make all of those paper airplanes.
Check out my cover for the first ever Ipad only edition of Parenting magazine, Parenting Seasons.
and here is an outtake:
I just returned from a corporate which took me to Mexico City, London and Hyderabad, India, during the past 2 weeks, with a short detour to Delaware and Maryland for Thanksgiving. I rented gear and hired my crews locally. It was challenging to arrange but everything went perfectly. I found great people and serviceable gear. Thank you to Nicole Rixon of Central Film and Rodrigo Cassou who helped me in Mexico City. Thanks to Kelvin Webb (pictured) and Fay Leith in London. And thanks to Ajai and Vikash of India Film Services for getting me what I needed in India and a great crew (pictured). Other than some issues obtaining my visa from the Indian Consulate and heavy snowfall in London, everything could not have gone smoother. Thanks to the folks at Addison for giving me the opportunity to revisit two of my favorite cities and for the chance to catch a glimpse of India. Here are some test photos from Hyderabad and London.
I have been working on a new promo that I will send out in the fall called Babe. It’s a collection of my baby photographs in a 40 page magazine. I made it on MagCloud which is a great service, although quality control and customer service are a bit spotty. You can publish a magazine to their site and people can actually buy a copy.
Here is a preview of Babe:
I also made a magazine of my personal work 2 years ago. You can preview or purchase either of them on the MagCloud site by clicking the links below.
Here are some of my favorites from a recent shoot for Huggies Pure and Natural.
We had the pleasure of working with Kerry Mellor, Tracy Flynn and Patty Widyn of Wunderman and Michelle Avantario of Bambini.

Reviewing photographs while tethered in the studio during the Next to Normal shoot. Pictured from left: Aaron Tveit, David Barrineau of Serino Coyne, Jacqueline Bovaird of Glasshouse Assignment (my agent), me, and Jacek Kuzniar
When shooting with strobes I almost always shoot tethered or connected to a computer. I find it difficult to really judge light on a camera’s LCD. It’s much easier to make judgements on a calibrated computer monitor than a 3″ camera screen. That said, it is NOT easy to get a computer and camera to communicate reliably. To read an extended discussion of my thoughts and methods of tethering click here.
This year I did better than I have in a long time. It’s encouraging. In years past, some of my all time favorite images were not accepted. It’s really hard to predict and can’t be taken too seriously.
These photos have been accepted in the 2010 PDN Photo Annual
The above right photo and the image below also got into the American Photography 26 book.
And this last photo (below), taken for BAM’s 2010 Bridge Project, got into the Communication Arts Photography Annual.
There are so many contests now. These are the 3 that I always enter.
